"My Unity Place"

So I usually just use Copics to color.  But lately mine keep running out.  SO yes I need to get refills but haven't made the investment yet.

So I ask you what do you use to color?  I think I need to try other things... LOL!

I *love* watercolouring.  I use both watercolour pencils and my personal favorite Peerless watercolour papers.  Once you get the hang of how watercolouring works it's very quick and looks awesome.  I find it works best with big images so you don't have to worry about bleeding etc.

I also like using pencil crayons and baby oil/gamesol.  It's a bit more labour intensive but you can achieve the same type of shading etc. as using Copics.

You can also use your water based inks (such as distress inks) and a water pen.  You just stamp the ink pad onto some wax paper and then pick up the colour with a paint brush or water pen.

I find the key when using the water methods is NOT to over wet the brushes and to predampen the image with a bit of water first so the colour spreads nicely.

Cool stuff!  I didn't think of baby oil, that works? I might have to try that.

Maria,

I also like using my color pencils and gamesol. My favorite is by inky antics (i think you can get it at Archiver's now too). Another tip to try with the distress ink technique and water pens is to add a few pieces of cut up sponge to your water pen to help control the flow of water from them :)

I use Promarkers for detailed colouring in. They're a lot like Copics, I just ended up getting them instead.

I also love watercolouring - either with mica based watercolours like Twinkling H2Os, or with Distress Inks.

And have you tried Sakura stardust pens? They can create some amazing shiny effects, although I only have a few so far. The clear one is good for adding a bit of shine to something without adding glitter.

Maria i use prisma pencils /gamasol sometimes but i love my copics so much that sometimes my prismas collect dust.LOL!!
I'm anxious to try the Faber Castell Gilatos but can't find a dealer in canada.

Corry,  oh my crafts has them.. and the shipping is cheap to Canada.. that is where i got mine.

I have some Gilatos coming :)   Yay!!
Fabulous! I have some but need to work more with them!
I love hearing what you are all using.....my latest find/buy/fav is Pantone Tria Markers by Letraset.  They are similar to copics as they are alcohol based.  They come with three different nib sizes, really fine, a chisel and a bullet end and they blend beautifully.  I also find that one pen/colour can give you heaps of tonal variation/depth etc where as Copics seem to use more than one shade of the same colour to achieve this result.  They are usually sold by artist shops for illustrators etc not so much scrapstores, however in Australia they are being marketed to the Scrap Market in tinned sets with all three nibs included.
